We offer a chance to get away from it all on a magnificent estate of 3000 hectares. Sunbird Cottage offers unsurpassed views of the surrounding mountains including the famous battlefields of Majuba. The cottage backs onto an indigenous forest that is home to a wonderful variety of animals and forest birds. Watch a beautiful sundown from the wooden deck that surrounds the other two sides of the cottage.

It is a spacious, luxurious two bed-roomed cottage sleeping a maximum of 4 people. It is fully equipped for self-catering and the lounge hosts an open fireplace. There is no need to bring linen or bath towels. The bathroom is a delight and one can enjoy a bath in the large oval bath while looking through the forest and down the gorge. If you are planning to swim in the many dams or waterfalls please bring your own swimming towels.

The area is a bird watchers paradise and we have our own bird list of over 200 species. Some of the specials include: Blue Korhaan, Bald Ibis, Martial Eagle and Bush Blackcap. Rudd's and Botha's Lark as well as Yellow breasted Pipit can be found in the area. We will gladly arrange a Birdlife guide for you or direct you to sites.

The estate offers fantastic walking and mountain biking as well as bass and trout fishing in dams and rivers. We are 30 km from Wakkerstroom which has a lovely restaurant and an interesting assortment of shops. Volksrust is home to a lovely 9 hole golf course.
