Hermanuspietersfontein Boerdery

Hermanuspietersfontein Boerdery

In the early 1800s Dutch farmers in the Hemel-en-Aarde valley felt that their children should rather be schooled in their home language, Dutch, this was a forerunner of Afrikaans. Their teacher was Hermanus Pieters. In l855, long after his passing, the village Hermanuspietersfontein was founded in his honour. In the early 1900's the postmaster shortened the village name to the name we know today, Hermanus. The name Hermanuspietersfontein was revisited this winery, its cellar and its branding and in honour of the people of Hermanuspietersfontein, all their wine names and labels will only be in Afrikaans - the only cellar in South Africa to do so.

The winery boasts a 350 ton cellar which is built around a courtyard with wide verandas which is used for the popular Saturday Hermanuspietersfontein Food & Wine Market. The market is a revival of the traditional Saturday morning community market and has become the place where friends and families meet. Where they come to enjoy breakfast or lunch, enjoy a glass of wine or just relax. There are food tables, as well as free wine tasting and there is guaranteed to be something for everyone. The market is open on Saturdays from 09:00 to 14:00

The winery is open for free wine tasting from Monday to Friday: 09:00 to 17:00 and on Saturdays: 09:00 - 16:00. During high season (15 Dec to 15 Jan) Saturdays: 09:00 to 16:00 and on Sundays: 10:30 - 15:00
