Struisbaai

Struisbaai is a little village just next to L'Agulhas, at the southernmost tip of Africa, with a 14 km stretch of white, sandy beach - the main attraction that makes it such an appealing holiday destination. Struisbaai is ideal for fishing, swimming, shell collecting, sunbathing or simply relaxing and taking in the amazing scenery. The quaint Struisbaai harbour provides whale watching boat excursions, particularly during mating season between May and December. The coast is also home to several old shipwrecks, including those of the Zoetendal, Birkenhead and Arniston.

Further inland, the beach gives way to charming fishermen's cottages and fynbos-covered terrain, perfect for ostriches, cattle and merino sheep. Hiking and mountain biking are popular and guided 4x4 tours are available. There are many must-see shell shops in the village of Struisbaai and the restored thatch-roof Anglican Church is a national monument and well worth a visit. The Aghulhas lighthouse is a popular attraction and is the second oldest working lighthouse in southern Africa.

Self catering accommodation in Struisbaai gives you the freedom to come and go as you please and explore further, knowing you can set your own timetable.
