These guest houses are beautifully restored traditional sandstone buildings typical of the architecture and stone masonry of
Nieuwoudtville. Van Zijl Guest Houses are open throughout the year.
All guest houses save for The Greendoor, are equipped for self-catering although it is highly recommended that you indulge yourself in the country cuisine served by your host Hendrik Van Zijl at his Smidswinkel Restaurant.
The Smidswinkel Restaurant & Information Centre is situated in a large sandstone building which, many years ago, was occupied by the last blacksmith at
Nieuwoudtville.

Bokkeveld, Boesmanland, Hantam, Knersvlakte: these fascinating South African regions converge at
Nieuwoudtville, a hamlet on the Bokkeveld Mountain Plateau. It is a botanical marvel with the highest speciation of bulbs in the world and the most beautiful landscapes. Flowers appear from late March to October, peaking in August and September.

Nieuwoudtville as the Bulb Capital of the World, since it has the highest speciation of bulbs in the world. South Africa's greatest contribution to world horticulture has been bulbs such as Freesia, Ixia, Tritonia, Gladiolus, Babiana, Sparaxis, Dierama, Clivia and many others.
