Xaxaza Park is situated in the beautiful, tranquil, park-like village of
Mtunzini on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast. Mtunzini means "Place of Shade" in
isiZulu. We are far away from the city lights, so if it is peace, beauty,
eco-tourism and an escape from the rat race you are looking for, Mtunzini is the
place for your next holiday.
We offer two varieties of on-site accommodation to suit various needs. We have
five Wooden Cottages and twelve Cabin Vans:
- The quaint wooden cottages each have two bedrooms, a bathroom and a
living area/kitchen. Each cottage also has a good size verandah with a braai
area. The cottages are fully equipped, so all you need to bring is your
towels, personal items plus your food and drink. Each cottage also has a TV
with a dish but visitors have to bring their own decoder and sim card.
- Our Cabin vans are basically caravans on site with a log cabin in place
of the tent. They are equipped with pots, pans, cutlery and crockery a stove
and fridge but visitors have to bring their own bedding and towels. They do
not have a bathroom attached and visitors have to make use of the main
ablution block. Visitors using the Cabin Vans get to experience a true
camping holiday.
Our caravan and camping sites are shady and level. If you want a more
luxurious camping holiday, Xaxaza has 13 sites with private
bathroom/kitchenettes. Park your caravan directly adjacent to your own private
ablution facilities, sit back and enjoy camping at its very best.
Xaxaza has a swimming pool, TV lounge, trampolines, putt putt, children's play
area and an enclosed games room with Table tennis, darts and snooker. There is
also a laundry on site and our ablutions are kept spotlessly clean.
We are 4km from the beach and lagoon which are within the Umlalazi Nature
Reserve controlled by Ezemvelo KwaZulu-Natal Wildlife. The sandy beach stretches
for miles and is breathtaking, especially when viewed from the high dunes. This
is a fisherman's paradise as there are no rocks to snare your fishing line.
There are marked walks along the beach and through the natural bush of the
nature reserve, which are a must for anyone keen on nature.
Mtunzini is known for its abundant bird life. The rare Palmnut Vulture can be
readily seen nesting on the tops of the Raphia Palms. Other rare birds which can
be found in or nearby Mtunzini are the Mangrove Kingfisher, Trumpeter Hornbill,
White-eared Barbet and the Woolly-neck Stork. There are bird guides available
and a trip to the nearby Ngoya Forest, with a possibility of siting the rare and
unique to the area, Green Barbet, is a must for anyone interested in birding.
The Mangrove Swamps and groves of Raphia Palms are added attractions. While
visiting Mtunzini, plan a day trip to the famous and spectacular Imfolozi/Hluhluwe
Game reserve which is only VA hours drive away.
Mtunzini is a quiet little village but we do have a Spar, Chemist, Bottle Store,
Doctor on call, and a few other shops. We also have three very highly rated
restaurants and our Country Club welcomes visitors. The golf course is very
popular and quite challenging. There is also a bowling green and a squash court,
horse riding is also available.
