Potchefstroom offers, apart from birding, several other nature experiences. The Highveld National Park, as well as the established Buffelsvlei Wild Animal Park, is about 12km from Cosy Cottages. About 20km from us lies the Vredefort Dome, created 2000 million years ago by a giant meteorite which struck the earth creating a crater 80km in diameter and forcing the surrounding landscape into a dome-like feature. This is the largest and oldest meteorite impact site on earth and is soon to be nominated for World Heritage status.
