KwaZulu Natal's South Coast accommodation and activities stretch over 150kms from Amanzimtoti to Port Edward near the Wild Coast.

South Coast holiday playground

The KZN South Coast is the holiday playground of all-year-round brilliant sunshine, blue sea and golden beaches. South Coast hikers and nature lovers will enjoy the fantastic scenery of the Oribi Gorge Nature Reserve near Port Shepstone. Or maybe, take a leisurely game drive through the Vernon Crookes Nature Reserve.

KZN South Coast - One of the best shark dives in the world

The South Coast is a scuba divers paradise, Aliwal Shoal being most popular with as many as 40 000 dives taking place annually. Protea Banks further south is considered to be one of the best shark dives in the world, bringing scuba diving enthusiasts pouring into the South Coast Self Catering Cottages.

The South Coast Sardine Run

The KZN South Coast also offers one of the finest angling areas worldwide. This includes South Coast rock and surf fishing as well as ski boat fishing. Each year shoals of sardines migrate from the Cape and swim up along the KZN South Coast, hugging the coastline. The sea currents bring them ever closer to shore. Hot on their tails are large numbers of predatory big-game fish which chase them into the shore break, providing marvellous opportunities for anglers who often just scoop the little silver fish into nets and baskets. This event is what's known as the Sardine Run. On the odd occasion the Sardine Run has proved disappointing because the ocean temperature has been too high, there is more than enough South Coast activity available to compensate.

Top rated South Coast golf courses

The larger towns on the South Coast are Margate and Port Shepstone. Within a one hour leisurely drive from Margate there are no less than nine excellent 18-hole golf courses. Amongst the more popular South Coast golf courses is the Wild Coast Country Club, Southbroom Golf Club, San Lameer Golf Resort, Margate Golf Club, and Selborne Golf Estate.

The South Coast area includes, among the many South Coast accommodation options, numerous nature reserves, shopping malls, arts and crafts shops, trails as well as a crocodile farm. The Mzamba Craft Village is on the opposite side of the Umtamvuna River accross the bridge from the Wild Coast Sun. The crafts people at Mzamba Craft Village chern out a constant stream of baskets, beadwork, pottery, leatherwork and beading - this is a must during a KwaZulu Natal South Coast visit.
