Montagu Museum - Montagu, Cape Winelands

The Montagu Museum in Montagu encompasses three historically significant buildings: Joubert House, the Old Mission Church, and the KWV Building Complex. Together, they form an essential part of Montagu’s architectural legacy, especially on Long Street. Since its founding in 1975, the Old Mission Church has served as the museum’s administrative center, featuring notable exhibits like a collection of pulpit Bibles and church artifacts. The church’s original pulpit, cloth, and a wall inscription by Nico Adriaan van Tuhra enhance its historical appeal, along with permanent exhibitions such as the Indigenous Medicinal Plant research project, the Francoise Krige collection, and T.O. Honiball's cartoons.

The museum also hosts a variety of temporary exhibitions to display its diverse collection. To commemorate its 30th anniversary in 2005, the museum published "Montagu and its People: 30 Stories" by Heinie Heydenrych and celebrated with a fashion parade of 30 vintage wedding dresses, including exquisite gowns by Angelique Albertyn. In 2007, the Old Mission Church celebrated its 100th anniversary. Adjacent to the church is an archive, which serves as a vital research facility with an extensive collection of historical documents, photos, and books related to Montagu and the surrounding region.

The KWV Building Complex, located at Long and Kohler Streets and acquired in the 1990s, exemplifies rural industrial architecture. The museum restored its impressive façade, and plans are in place to display agricultural vehicles and artifacts in the courtyard behind the complex. The KWV Art Gallery within the building continues to feature a variety of art exhibitions.
