The Danger Point Lighthouse is a historic maritime beacon located near Gansbaai in the Western Cape, South Africa. Established in 1895, this lighthouse was built to warn ships of the perilous reefs and rocky coastline that had claimed many vessels over the years, most famously the HMS Birkenhead in 1852. The tragic sinking of the Birkenhead, which led to the loss of over 400 lives, highlighted the need for a lighthouse in this treacherous area. The Danger Point Lighthouse stands 18.3 meters tall and is equipped with a powerful light that can be seen from 25 nautical miles away, serving as a crucial guide for mariners navigating the South African coast.
