Louwhuis also referred to as the Louw House Museum is a historical landmark located in Sutherland, in the Karoo area of the Northern Cape. Built in 1861 it was once the residence of the Louw family, including the birth place of the two famous Afrikaans poets and writer brothers, N.P van Wyk Louw and W.E.G. Louw who both went on to win numerous Hertzhog awards for literacy. The house reflects traditional Karoo architecture and has been preserved as a museum, offering insights into the life and times of the Louw family and the cultural heritage of the region. It is a notable site for visitors interested in South African literature and history and also honours other Sutherlanders who are remembered there.
