Bontebok National Park is a protected area located in the Overberg region of the Western Cape, South Africa. Established in 1931, the park was created to protect the endangered Bontebok antelope, from which it derives its name. The park covers approximately 27,000 hectares and features a diverse range of habitats, including fynbos, grasslands, and wetlands.
The Bontebok National Park was originally established to protect the once rare bontebok from extinction. Other wildlife which can be seen in the park include the Cape mountain zebra, grey rhebok, red hartebeest, and more. Birdlife is prolific and include the secretary bird, fish eagle, and blue crane. 470 plant species can be found. Fishing enthusiasts will find large-mouth bass and carp in the Breede River which flows through a portion of the park.
The park is renowned for its thriving population of Bontebok antelope, as well as other wildlife species such as the Cape Mountain zebra and a variety of bird species. Visitors to the park can enjoy various activities, including game viewing, hiking, and birdwatching.
