Avontuur is a beautiful area and it lies on the border of the Karoo in the Western Cape, South Africa. It is also conveniently close to Plettenberg Bay and Knysna. The George Airport is also nearby which makes it convenient for visitors. Avontuur lies at the foot hills of the Tsitsikama Mountains which allows for spectacular scenic views. The closest town is Uniondale which is approximately 10km away. There is a steam train called the Apple Express which runs from Port Elizabeth, Avontuur is its last stop.

Attractions:
Outeniqua Nature Reserve is nearby and offers hiking trails which range in difficulty, some of which are quite a challenge. The rugged mountain range is breathtaking and you won’t be sorry you made the trip. There is also a variety of wildlife and flora to be seen en route. For those who want to enjoy a round of golf with friends or to just hit some practise balls. There is the Simola Golf Course which is a Jack Nicklaus signature course. It is a championship course and is beautifully maintained. The course has spectacular views and each of the 18 holes are designed with its own challenges. Bookings are essential.

Avontuur enjoys the Western Cape’s Mediterranean climate with cool to very cold and wet winters and warm to hot, dry summer months.
