Klawer Accommodation

Klawer

The little town of Klawer lies nestled between the Matzikamma Mountains and Olifants River, less than 3 hours drive from Cape Town on the N7. Klawer was named after the wild clover that grows wild in the area. During flower season, the peaceful but dry countryside is transformed into a colourful landscape.

Popular activities in and around Klawer include hiking trails, 4x4 trails and river rafting at the nearby Doring River. Wine tasting is on offer at the Klawer winery and history lovers can visit Windhoek Farm - site of the 1902 skirmish between General Jan Smuts and the British. Local guides provide tours of rock art dating from early Khoi-San and Bushmen inhabitants.

Klawer produces fruit and vegetables for the local and export market and one can tour one of the local farms, Kapel, to see these undertakings in action. Another attraction is the irrigation canal siphon at Kransbrug, built by Italian prisoners of war, which transfers water from the western to the eastern channel of the Olifants River.
