Ladismith

Ladismith is situated on the R62, south of Laingsburg and north of Van Wyksdorp, at the foot of the Klein Swartberg Mountains. Ladismith was named after the lady Juana Maria de los Dores de Leon Smith, the spanish-born wife of Sir Harry Smith, Governor of the Cape from 1847 to 1854.

To the north of Ladismith town you will find two peaks, Toringberg and Toorkop. Legend has it that they once were one, but one night a witch lost her temper when she could not climb over them, so she split them in two.

In Church Street you will find some lovely Victorian style houses complete with cast-iron work. You can sample some cheeses at the Ladismith Cheese Factory or sample some wines at the Ladismith Wine Cellar.

Ladismith has camping and caravan grounds and accommodation is also available in the form of Bed and Breakfast and guest lodges. Facilities include outdoor pools, onsite braai/barbeque areas, babysitting services, golf, air conditioning and fireplaces.

Hikers may attempt the Elandsberg Mountain trail or the Towersig Mountain trail, both which takes you high up in the mountains and offers spectacular views and scenery.
