Tucked away in the Mont au Sources region of the Northern Drakensberg lies the Putterill Valley. The valley and its spruit get their name from the first registered owner of the land there, Charles Putterill, who purchased it in 1907. This secluded valley lies beneath the massive sandstone cliffs of the Northern Drakensberg with beautiful natural surroundings. It is home to numerous Bushman paintings, 213 species of birds, 150 species of trees and numerous wild animals. As a nature lover, this would be your ideal location.
The Putterill Valley is an ideal stepping off point for hikes to such wonderful places as Thonsela Cave, Cannibal Cavern, Echo Cave and Sungubala. For the more energetic, there are walks to the Tugela Gorge and to the top of the Amphitheatre. The Putterill Valley offers an extensive range of sport and recreational facilities, from guided walks to horse trails through splendid scenery, jeep trips and trout fishing in several well stocked dams. The valley is located in the Northern Drakensberg, 3½ hours from Gauteng and 3 hours from Durban on excellent tarred roads.
