Wishbone Waters offers self catering cottage accommodation and is located 2.5 km north of the N2 in the Redford farming area of The Crags, between Plettenberg Bay and Nature's Valley, on the Garden Route.

Magnificent views of the Tsitsikamma mountains can be enjoyed from all aspects of the farm, which has in the course of the last two decades been cleared of alien invasive vegetation and allowed to revert to fynbos and forest. Birdlife is prolific, and has been encouraged by the extra plantings of indigenous trees and shrubs on the property. There are various paths that can be walked on the farm.

Dragonfly Cottage

Dragonfly Cottage is the fully equipped 2-bedroomed self-catering cottage on the farm, recently expanded and renovated. It provides ample living space for a family of four, or two couples. The main bedroom has an extra-length queen bed, and en-suite bathroom with shower. The second bedroom has twin beds. The larger bathroom has a bath and shower. The spacious living / dining / kitchen area opens onto the patio, where braai facilities are at hand. There is a closed combustion stove for cosy heating in colder weather. The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering, and includes a washing-machine and a mini-dishwasher.

General notes –

  • Wi-fi is available, and there is a satellite dish for DSTV – bring your own decoder.
  • Wood is provided for braaiing and the combustion stove.
  • Linen and towels are provided; beach / swimming towels are available on request. There are electric blankets available for colder weather.
  • Servicing is generally two or three times a week, with a change of linen every four days or so in longer stays. Extra servicing can be arranged in advance at own cost.
  • The cottage is fully fenced, and by arrangement is pet-friendly for a well controlled dog – there is a levy applicable.

A glade of trees between the cottage and the main house ensures privacy and provides lovely shady spots to picnic or simply chill out. Guests are also welcome to share the swimming-pool, jacuzzi and entertainment room near the main farmhouse, as well as a boma which overlooks a pretty dam. Fun-fishing for bass can be done in the dam. Walking, cycling and birdwatching are popular activities in the greater area. Many of the local farms are affiliated to the Redford Conservancy, and ascribe to recommended nature conservation principles.

Tourist attractions within 5-7km include: Birds of Eden, Tenikwa, Monkeyland, the Elephant Sanctuary, Lawnwood Snake Sanctuary, Africanyon adventure abseiling, Nature's Way Farm Stall and many more. There are three wine estates in the immediate area for wine-tasting and delicious meals. There are also a few other restaurants in the area. There is usually polo activity with matches at the nearby Kurland Estate in the summer and autumn holiday season. Local farming activities include vegetables, honeybush tea, almonds and macadamia nuts, as well as cattle and horses.

The closest beaches are at Nature's Valley and Keurboomstrand, each approximately 15 minutes' scenic drive from The Crags. Plettenberg Bay itself is 22km from the farm, and has beaches, golf courses and plenty of options for shopping, restaurants and other activities such as deep-sea fishing and whale-watching excursions. Knysna is about 45 minutes’ drive from The Crags, as is Stormsriver, which has various adventure offerings, and the Tsitsikamma National Park with its pristine Marine Protected Area.
