Clifton, Cape Town

Clifton is possibly the most popular beach in Cape Town and one of the most sought after suburbs on the Atlantic Seaboard. On the way to Camps Bay, just past Bantry Bay, Clifton is made up of four coves, each with its own beach, called 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th beaches. What makes Clifton's beaches especially popular is their shelter from the infamous South Easter and the beauty of the white, sandy beaches and rocky coves.

Accommodation in Clifton offers the visitor the perfect base from which to explore the area. Self catering in Clifton is a popular option, with most only a stone's throw from the beautiful beaches.

With Table Mountain providing an impressive backdrop, Clifton has become really trendy. Each of its beaches is accessed via stairs leading from the road and parking can become something of a nightmare in peak season. 4th beach is a blue flag beach and the busiest in summer. Clifton has no shops and only a couple of restaurants, which means that at night, once all of the crowds have left, this becomes a wonderful place to stay. Camps Bay is just down the road and its pavements are lined with trendy bars, restaurants and clubs.

Clifton, Cape Town, is renowned for its stunning beaches and upscale ambiance.

Here are five things to see or do in Clifton:

1. Relax on Clifton Beaches: Clifton is famous for its four pristine beaches, named First through Fourth Beach. These beaches are separated by granite boulders, offering sheltered spots perfect for sunbathing, swimming, and picnicking. Each beach has its unique vibe, with Fourth Beach being the most popular and family-friendly.

2. Take a Scenic Walk on Victoria Road: Enjoy a leisurely walk along Victoria Road, which offers breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Twelve Apostles mountain range. The road connects Clifton to Camps Bay, and the scenery along the way is truly spectacular.

3. Sunset Viewing: Clifton's beaches are renowned for their stunning sunsets. Bring a blanket, some snacks, and enjoy the vibrant colors as the sun sets over the Atlantic Ocean. Fourth Beach is particularly popular for sunset picnics.

4. Water Sports and Activities: Engage in various water sports such as kayaking, paddleboarding, or snorkeling. The calm waters of Clifton's beaches make them ideal for these activities, offering a fun and active way to explore the coastline.

5. Explore Nearby Camps Bay: A short distance from Clifton, Camps Bay offers a lively atmosphere with its beachfront promenade, trendy cafes, restaurants, and bars. After a day at Clifton Beach, head to Camps Bay for a meal or drinks with a view.

These activities highlight the natural beauty, relaxed lifestyle, and proximity to other vibrant areas that make Clifton a sought-after destination in Cape Town.
