Blyde River Canyon

At 700m in depth, the Blyde River Canyon is ranked as the 3rd deepest canyon in the world. Millions of years of erosion have carved out dramatic rock formations, such as the Three Rondavels, the Pinnacle, and Bourke's Luck Potholes.

The canyon is part of the Greater Drakensberg Escarpment - the fault line that divides the cool dry Highveld from the warm and humid Lowveld. This dramatic variation in climate is reflected by the great diversity of vegetation and wildlife.

Blyde River Canyon Hiking Trail is a challenging 65 km 5-day adventure. The trail begins at God's Window at the southern end of the canyon, and ends at Swadini in the north. Huts are equipped with bunks, mattresses, cooking utensils and firewood.
