The Acork evening festival includes a torch-lit procession to Chief Soshangana's kraal, which includes traditional dancing, music and choirs, then the chief's wives serve a feast of crocodile strips, mopane worms and fire-grilled corn-wheels.

- Mapusha Weavers is an enterprising group of Shangaan and Mapulaneng Sotho women who work in their rural studio near the village of Acornhoek. Their hand made rugs, tapestries, bags, and other woven masterpieces are made from wool or cotton spun and dyed using age-old techniques, and are all original works of art.

- Take time out to visit the nearby Mapulaneng Hiking Trail, known for its spectacular waterfalls, wonderful scenery and Acornhoek self catering accommodation in chalets and bungalows.

- Sometimes at night after a rain shower, swarms of termites appear and local people run to catch them. These termites are very large, almost 6 cm long and about a 1.2cm wide. Not only are they meaty, but they taste good too. They can be added into just about any dish as a meat substitute, or used to make a stew.
Warning : If you are driving, do not use the car wipers. Termite blood is like super glue, and you will need to scrape them off your wind-shield.
