Tucked away on the shores of the Knysna Lagoon and almost in the shadows of the looming Heads, lies the Knysna Golf Club. The club was originally founded in 1909 and only moved to its current location in Knysna in 1953. It started its existence as a 9 hole course and was made an 18 hole course in 1960. This Par 73, 5924 metre course winds its way through tidal pools and between magnificent indigenous trees which make it an interesting parkland layout. The course has been enhanced over the past ten years, and has some of the best bent grass greens in the Southern Cape. Although the course is flat and easy to walk, it still provides players of all levels with a good challenge and some truly memorable golfing experiences. The hills and mountains surrounding Knysna provide scenic backdrops on every hole and there are also many different species of trees, flowers and bird-life to watch out for. The clubhouse which has been recently rebuilt has a pleasant halfway house with a bar and a large deck.
Although the club does not have a full length driving range, players are still able to practice on a large putting and chipping green and make use of the short game practice range (100m). Booking golf clubs, pull trolleys and golf cars well in advance, especially in season, will ensure that you are able to hire them even during busy periods. A team of dedicated and experienced caddies is available to assist the visitor and provide expert advice as you navigate the course.
The clubhouse is made up of a luxurious bar and lounge with 4 widescreen televisions. A large deck with braai (barbeque) facilities overlooks the 9th green and provides a good view of the courses signature hole. The affordable Halfway House serves light meals, snacks and drinks. The Knysna Golf Club is able to cater for large groups and frequently hosts business and social functions.
Visitors are welcome on any day, but bookings are essential in season. The course is closed on Good Friday and Christmas Day.
