-------------------- CANNOT CONFIRM IF THIS EVENT STILL HAPPENS ------------------
The scenic province of Limpopo will burst into life for the annual Magoebaskloof Berry Festival. This popular festival, which is a hit amongst young and old alike, is hosted by the unique village of Haenertsburg and Blueberry Heights Farm in Magoebaskloof. One of the most popular activities is the berry picking offered at Blueberry Heights from early December to middle February every year.
The Village market in Haenertsburg offers a lovely selection of food stalls, locally grown and produced products and crafts. Browse the stalls and sample some of the many berries and berry products. In addition, stalls will showcase an array of homemade pickles, preserves, cakes, arts and crafts; ensuring that the whole family is kept busy. Look out for pre-loved goods, books, plants and other knick-knacks too.
Visit Wegraakbosch Organic Dairy and watch as the cheeses are lovingly produced according to tradition (complete with hand-milked cows and copper cauldrons) to achieve the best flavours and varieties.
In keeping with the theme, there will be a number of outdoor activities; including the Berry Festival Trail Run which is a wonderful event for the whole family. The latter is slightly more challenging (although even those who are not avid runners should manage it, or you can just walk the trail), and takes runners through the exquisite countryside to enjoy the gorgeous forests and the endless rolling hills of the Blueberry Heights Farm.
This event certainly boasts no shortage of things to do and see, all within lovely surrounds. It is a must for families and travellers making their way around Limpopo. While you are here, visit the village and its many restaurants and pubs, or make a holiday of it and head on to the world-famous Kruger National Park.
