Zwakala River Retreat is situated on a privately owned farm in the beautiful Magoebaskloof Mountains in the Limpopo Province. Our accommodation includes cosy cottages, a guest house and a private camp site located next to a tranquil river in the mountains. We also have a charming old fashioned farm venue ideal for weddings and other creative gatherings.

Zwakala River Retreat is a perfect place to chill and get away from the stress of city life. Our self-catering accommodation is simply beautiful and in some of the accommodation we have chosen not to have electricity. Instead we believe that the simplicity of candle light and lamps, steaming hot water from a donkey boiler and a 'lekka' fire make for romance, talking, dreaming and togetherness. For those of you who need electricity, our newly renovated Farm House and Barn House are connected.

We are very privileged to live on this little piece of Africa and would like to share with you a slower pace of life. Come and meet our three horses, six dogs, flock of sheep, when they are home, our three children and usually some more friends.

Legodi Cottage

Legodi Cottage is a two bedroomed cottage which sleeps 4 people comfortably. There is also space for 2 children on the large built in couches surrounding the fireplace. Fully equipped with gas stove and fridge, large inside fireplace, outside braai area and a deck overlooking river. Down duvets keep the winter chills at bay. (4 -5 sleeper)

The Cob House

A beautiful eco-friendly two bedroomed cottage built from stone and earth using the Cob sustainable building method. The cottage has two bathrooms, one on-suite and one seperate. The lounge area has two full sized single mattresses on a built in sleeper couch area around the fireplace. Extra bedding for these two mattresses makes it perfect to sleep an extra two children or adults. It has a gas fridge and stove, large fireplace, solar lights in all the rooms. It opens out onto a veranda and outside fire pit for sitting around at night. (4 -6 sleeper)

The Barn House

An old barn converted into two loft apartments. Each apartment has an upstairs bedroom with a double bed. In the downstairs area there is a double sleeper couch which can accommodate an extra adult or child. There is a small kitchenette for making tea and coffee with a fridge and a separate bathroom area. Each of the apartments are exactly the same and both open onto a veranda. On the one end of the veranda is a fully equipped kitchen for self-catering. Outside there is a fireplace and a braai. Looks out over the valley and mountains. (4 to 8 sleeper) The Barn House has electricity.

The Farm House

The Farm House recently renovated into a comfortable, fully equipped guesthouse. It has four bedrooms each with a double bed and three bathrooms. A large veranda looks out over the valley. It's conveniently located near our farm event area for easy access during functions. The farm house has electricity. (8 sleeper)

Zwakala Campsite

Our camping site is located next to the Broederstroom River. Experience the quietness and the beauty of the stars at night. The gurgling of the river over rapids and small waterfalls will ensure the best sleep ever. The campsite has a covered kitchen area with a large fireplace ideal for the cold misty days. An outdoor hot-water shower and a flush loo with a view make up the ablution facilities. It's a private campsite so if you book it it's your's only for the duration of your stay. Ideal for groups of up to 16 people.

Mina's Art Cafe & Farm Venue

The original farmhouse from the 1900's loving renovated into a charming vintage style farm venue. An old fashioned "stoep" looks out over beautiful terraced gardens with massive trees and further down towards the view of the valley and distant mountains. Can accommodate up to 120 guests. All catering is done in our farm kitchen using the freshest locally sourced ingredients.
