Kanonkop Wine Estate is one of the premier wine estates located on the lower slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain in Stellenbosch, part of the Cape Winelands. Established in 1973, the estate is renowned for producing top-quality wines, particularly Pinotage, which has earned it numerous local and international awards. This contributes to the complexity and depth of their wines, especially their flagship Paul Sauer Bordeaux-style blend.
The Pinotage from Kanonkop is especially famous, often considered one of the best in the country, and has helped elevate the reputation of this unique South African varietal. Kanonkop also produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and the renowned Kadette range, offering both approachable and complex wines. Winemaker Abrie Beeslaar has been an integral part of the estate’s success, continuing the tradition of excellence started by previous generations of winemakers. The estate has a long-standing legacy of family ownership, currently managed by the Sauer and Krige families, who have deep historical roots in the region.
