Noordhoek

Noordhoek, just 25 minutes drive from Cape Town, is Cape Town's last rural village with its mix of modest cottages, luxury homes, small holdings, farms and mansions. The subdivided farms have been developed according to building guidelines and there is a sensitive balance of agricultural, rural and residential living in Noordhoek.

Noordhoek, meaning 'northern corner', was named in 1743 as the north corner of the farm Slangkop. Farmers originally grew vegetables to supply the ships calling at Simon's Town. Today Noordhoek, on the Atlantic coast at the southern end of Chapman's Peak Drive, maintains this atmosphere with the return of vegetable and wine farming to the area and the blend of horses, pigs, cows, hens and other farm animals. In Noordhoek you can still hear owls hoot at night and Long Beach is one of the best kept secrets of Cape Town - 8 km of wide, sandy, unspoiled beach, bordering on wetlands, on which locals ride their horses and walk their dogs amidst the dedicated surfers and sand dunes.
