Scarborough

The little village of Scarborough lies next to the Cape Point Nature reserve against the steep mountains of Slangkop and Red Hill, with the Atlantic Ocean on its doorstep. Scarborough is only 45 minutes from Cape Town yet manages to feel miles from the traffic jams and suburban lifestyle of the city. A smattering of houses and seaside homes, Scarborough has managed to retain its quiet, relaxed, rural village atmosphere. As a conservation village, Scarborough has some of the best examples of plants and animals in Cape Town and is blessed with both the mountains and the ocean.

Scarborough's beach is in a pristine state. It is very popular for its body boarding, surfing, kite surfing, crayfishing and swimming, if you're prepared to brave the cold waters. Certainly the sunsets and walks along this beach are worth it alone. Scarborough's only concession to tourism is two restaurants and a weeny shop but it is close to Simon's Town, Noordhoek and Fish Hoek if you're after a taste of civilisation.
