Sherwood is known as 'the garden suburb', because of its magnificent nurseries and manicured properties, and is Durban's western-most suburb before entering Westville and the Highway area of 'greater Durban', yet it's only 6km from the Durban City Hall. This is the last cut-off point in the 'down run' of the world-famous Comrades Marathon between KwaZulu Natal provincial capital Pietermaritzburg and Durban. This reserve lying in the heart of Westville spans the length of the valley, and has numerous trails which lead hikers to various interesting sites which include waterfalls, cliffs, a grassy mountain ridge and picnic sites. Although on the edge of Westville, just past the Pavilion the Umkhumbane Flea Market is also worth taking a look at.
