De Waterkant

De Waterkant is a friendly community with restored Cape Dutch and Georgian style buildings which are said to have been built by slaves in the 1700's. You can also find Mosques, Museums and Heritage buildings in De Waterkant which has become unique and very cosmopolitan.

De Waterkant is situated on Signal Hill which boasts spectacular views as it overlooks Table Bay. On Signal Hill you will find what is called the Noon Gun, where a cannon is fired at 12:00 every day. If you are looking for unique decor or arts and crafts then the Cape Quarter is the place for you. In the City Centre itself you can visit the Two Oceans Aquarium where adults and children can admire the tranquil and amazing underwater sea life. The V&A Waterfront is nearby too and is probably Cape Towns biggest tourist attraction.

De Waterkant is a vibrant neighborhood in Cape Town, known for its colorful architecture, trendy boutiques, and lively atmosphere.

Here are five things you can do or see in De Waterkant:

  1. Explore the Architecture: Wander through the streets of De Waterkant and admire its beautifully restored Cape Dutch and Georgian-style houses painted in bright, pastel colors. It's a photographer's paradise with its picturesque facades.

  2. Shop and Dine at the Cape Quarter: Visit the Cape Quarter Lifestyle Village, a trendy shopping and dining destination in De Waterkant. Here, you'll find a variety of boutiques, cafes, restaurants, and galleries housed in a mix of modern and historic buildings.

  3. Visit the Bo-Kaap: While technically just adjacent to De Waterkant, a visit to the Bo-Kaap neighborhood is a must. Known for its brightly colored houses and rich Cape Malay culture, you can explore the streets, visit the Bo-Kaap Museum, and enjoy traditional Cape Malay cuisine.

  4. Experience the Nightlife: De Waterkant is famous for its vibrant nightlife. Explore the bars, clubs, and cocktail lounges that come alive after dark. It's a great place to experience Cape Town's social scene.

  5. Attend a Market or Festival: Depending on the time of year, De Waterkant hosts various markets and festivals. Check out the local calendar for events like the Cape Town Pride Festival, markets offering artisanal goods, or food festivals celebrating local cuisine.

These activities offer a blend of cultural immersion, shopping, dining, and nightlife that capture the essence of De Waterkant's appeal.
